2019 SUMMER NEWS

Summer is here and we give attention to an important event of business and pleasure with this Chapter, Business – at a new location, another major financial presentation to our charity group, St. Paul’s Cathedral Lunch Program.. Pleasure – againa great chance for camaraderie, friendship, fun, and good food. All info. is on the insert enclosed with this newsletter so read it, clip off the bottom portion and send in your reply NOW! as the deadline August 2 is only a few weeks away. Regardless of all the plans and readiness, only you can make this a success.

ANNUAL BANQUET – On May 4, to celebrate the Club’s 30th Anniversary, eighty-two members and guests gathered for a scrumptious buffet catered by Charlotte’s Catering of Moose Jaw along with shared memories, laughter, and fellowship, held at the St. Athanasius Hall. Raffle gift baskets beautifully packaged by Florence Manz were drawn for, plus a 50/50 draw handled by Judy Weber Fraser which was won by Grant Sexsmith… Entertainment was provided by Doug Arden, a talented Magician/Ventriloquist/Comedian. Many thanks to coordinator George Totten, the local Phoning Committee, and you one and all, for such a successful venture. Next year’s plans for May 2 ,2020 are now in the works.

COFFEE SOCIALS – On May 30, A jam session to discuss new ideas and future ventures for this Chapter was held with many voices being raised. Our Sept.26 and Oct.31 socials are now in the Leisure Center Art room (next to the parking lot). Betty Jackson is always open for ideas of future speakers.

ALZHEIMER’S WALK. Our Chapter entered a team called “The Golden Sheafers” to participate in the annual fund-raising project for the Sask. Alzheimer’s Society which was held on May 28. Team members Conway and Carol-Ellen Crozier-Smith, Betty Jackson, Sharon Palka, and George Totten raised close to $3,000. We were declared the top fund-raiser team in Regina. Many thanks to those who chose to donate in support of this team, in particular Rosemary Devers who supported each of our team members.

NATIONAL CAMARADERIE AWARD – At the annual Presidents Convention held a few weeks ago our Chapter was presented this award for holding the widest variety of activities for it’s members this past year.. Thank you for your support in these ventures which contributed to the National Office’s decision.

NOTEWORTHY NEWS: -To those we have heard about recently that were sick or requiring hospital attention since our last newsletter, best wishes are given to: John Herda, Margaret Ayers, Bob Kelly, Dennis Junior, Betty Jackson.

Sadly we report the passing away of members Rudolph Knapp and Patrick Hoffart. Condolences were sent to Rodney Wirll on the passing away of his mother, and to Shirley Hoffart, Pat’s wife.

N.B. Please remember to phone Bernice Glover (306-525-5914), if you hear of anyone sick or has passed away, so cards or a visit can be arranged by our Caring Committee Coordinator.

These are collected by George & Sonia Totten, 35 Spiess Bay, Regina SK (phone 306-545-0089).and distributed to the Cathedral luncheon program. These items are a precious item of hygiene to a homeless person or someone in a tough situation. You may bring them to the Summer Social.

You are encouraged to make this fun day in a new location, a great success. Tournaments of Whist and Cribbage and Yahtzee are being planned, along with fellowship, 50/50 draw and a delicious meal, all for a very minimal charge.
